The Purchasing Agent is responsible for coordinating all activities involved
with procuring goods and services, including raw materials, equipment for the
facility, supplies etc. The Purchasing Agent will be the first contact for vendors
to obtain product or service information, including price, availability, and
delivery schedule.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Select products for purchase by negotiating, researching, availability and testing goods.
  • Maintain procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
  • Maintain inventory levels.
    •   Review and analyze weekly usage for the facility.
    •   Estimates values according to knowledge of market price.
    •   Determine size, dates of shipments and   availability from supplier.
  • Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with production and quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action.
    • Prepare purchase orders and bid requests.
  • Review bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
  • Analyze past history usage.
  • Create debit memos on defective materials
  • Establish relationships with outside vendors

Requirements

  • 3-5 years experience in Procurement in a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong communication skills required, (written, speaking and listening).
  • Strong accountability and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with staff on all levels and vendors.
    • Self-motivated to work independently in a busy environment with changing priorities and the ability to adapt.
    • Highly organized; ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments.
