  • Summary

    Divisions of Patrick Industries, located in the Greater-Elkhart, Indiana area are hiring a experienced Controllers with prior experience in operations to join our team. The Controller must have the capability to manage standard accounting practices for multi-site operations and have strong leadership qualities. 

    Specific Responsibilities

    The Controller will be responsible for the oversight, leadership and coordination of accounting, financial reporting, financial management, business management and budgeting efforts as it relates to the operation of facilities growing operation. This person will also be responsible for overseeing decisions made in Materials and Distribution.


    Essential job functions will include:


    • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies, procedures and internal controls
    • Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits and providing information to external auditors
    • Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data and recommending plans to Business Unit Leaders
    • Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions
    • Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
    • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends
    • Monthly financial reporting timely
    • Maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards
    • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
    • Maintain the chart of accounts
    • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
    • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
    • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts
    • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to the Corporate Office
    • Provide for a system of management cost reports
    • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
    • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
    • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
    • Responsible for the assisting in the filing of quarterly and annual reports with the Securities and Exchange Commission



    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
    • Candidates should have 5+ years’ of progressively responsible experience
    • Prior experience in Operations/Distribution is mandatory
    • Experience with Great Plains is desired
    • Preference will be given to candidates with the Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations and a comprehensive knowledge of GAAP required
    • Minimum of 2 years in public accounting is desired
    • Experience to include general understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley Act is desired
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in terms of being clear, concise, and professional with the ability to work effectively with a wide array of plant personnel ranging from hourly employees to senior management
    • Ability to quickly adapt communications in a variety of settings to meet the unique needs of multiple audiences
    • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize multiple projects under tight deadlines and work independently with little to no oversight
    • Strong accountability and follow-through skills
    • Ability and desire to train and coach others to improve performance
    • Strong analytical/critical thinking
    • A high level of personal integrity (self-esteem, confidence, honesty, and respect) are necessary qualities
