  • Summary

    Patrick Industries Corporate Office is currently hiring a Senior Staff Accountant to join our growing team located in Elkhart, Indiana. This is a role focused on supporting all accounting functions for freight within multiple Business Units throughout the organization.


    Reporting to a Corporate Controller who will provide support and leadership, the Senior Staff Accountant will work closely with the logistics and supply chain teams to better understand processes and practice proper accounting for freight and duty expenses and activities across the assigned Business Units.

    Specific Responsibilities

    The main responsibility of the Senior Staff Accountant will be focused on ensuring that proper accounting for freight and duty expenses and activities across the supply chain network are followed and maintained.


    Additional responsibilities will include:

    • Oversee the accounting for freight for multiple business units with unique business models, processes, and operating out of multiple ERP systems to ensure proper recording of expense, accruals and capitalization of freight in inventory company-wide
    • Identify and correct any issues with business units or processes where freight is not properly accounted for in accordance with GAAP
    • Establish and implement best practice procedures for accruing and analyzing freight expense on a monthly basis including freight-in, freight-out, & duties
    • Prepare freight related journal entries as part of month end close
    • Prepare routine and ad hoc freight reporting and supporting analysis to management
    • Audit third party payment processing and post in financial system
    • Partner with the Director of Transportation, IT, and Accounting to develop system for tracking and analyzing freight
    • Lead/participate in various projects/ad hoc requests
    • Act as the freight and logistics accounting point of contact for operations, accounting and other internal customers


    • Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
    • A minimum of 4 years of accounting or finance experience is required in a similar role
    • Those with experience in logistics are highly desired
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in terms of being clear, concise, and professional with the ability to work effectively with a wide array of plant personnel ranging from hourly employees to senior management
    • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize multiple projects under tight deadlines and work independently with little to no oversight
    • Strong accountability and follow-through skills
    • A high level of personal integrity (self-esteem, confidence, honesty, and respect) are necessary qualities
